Dear Shenzie and Heaten,

Where oh where does the time go?!? This week you will be two months old! TWO MONTHS. You are both growing so fast it is unbelievable. The older you get the more I see how very different you are. You may be twins and have the same little piggy noses, but that is where the similarity ends.

Shenzie aka Gizmo,

At your last Dr. visit you were over 8 pounds!!!! I would guess you are closer to 9 at this point. You’ve come a long way from the little scrawny baby you once were.

You are generally very quiet and calm until you get hungry and then you go “Heaten” on me. You only cry when something is wrong - hunger, dirty diaper, or gassy belly. You still sit quietly and stare into space for hours. I wonder what you think about? You are very close to smiling. One of my favorite things to do is sit and watch you as you wake up. You go through an assortment of expressions. You smile, you “O” your mouth, you stick out your tongue, and of course you frown.

You had your first Thanksgiving this past week at Grandma’s house. You were very good and slept for the most part. On Thanksgiving I dressed you in the blue outfit in the picture above. I guess girls can only wear pink these days because your Grandpa and even some of your Aunties thought you were Heaten because you were in blue! Shame on them. Your cousin Alexee asked why you were in Heaten’s clothes. When I told her they were yours and see the flowers she said “Ohhhh, but its blue”. Ha, we sure fooled them!

We love you little girl, more and more everyday!!

Dear Heaten aka Snurgle,

My little man is getting soooo big!!! At the last Dr. visit you were over 9 pounds which means you are probably 10 pounds right now! Ten pounds of gurgling, snorting, spituping, growling cuteness! You are very active (well, as active as a two month old can be). You flop, you flail, you throw your body around all of the time which makes it very hard to burp you. You are giving us a smile every now and again. Today your daddy was playing with your nose and you smiled at him. We both can’t wait for the day you both smile all of the time. I wake you every morning with a cheery goodmorning song hoping for a smile - instead I get the hungry cry which is cute too. =)

We love you little man!

I could sit and cuddle you two all day. I love to kiss your chubby cheeks and I spend wayyyy to much time sniffing you. You both smell good enough to eat. Your dad had the last five days off and it has been heavenly. I got to cuddle you and enjoy all of the time with you that I don’t get when I’m home alone and going crazy. You keep me very busy but I wouldn’t change a thing!

I love you little Clammies.

Love,

Mama

Happy “Would Be” Birthday to the little Clams!!!

Today is their “official” due date. It’s crazy to think they were born 6 weeks early and would just now be entering our lives. While I wouldn’t wish the NICU on anyone, I’m glad we’ve been able to have our babies home with us these past weeks. They are truly our little miracles and we love them to bits. Jeff is the best dad I could ever hope for, these little babies are very lucky. Mommy is very lucky as well since Jeff takes such good care of them and is such a night owl I’m able to get between 4-5 hours of uninterruped sleep every night which makes for a very happy, non stressed mom. Last night I slept for 9 hours!!! NINE HOURS. Are you kidding me right now!?!?! Thank you sugar for all of your hard work and support!

The other day we watched the video of their birth . I was so drugged up at the birth it was fun to see what took place since the memories are a bit hazy. On October 2, 2006, I went to see the Perinatologist because my blood pressure had been in the 90-100’s all weekend. Anything over 80 (diastolic) is concerning and since I had protein in my urine they were concerned about Pre-eclampsia (pregnancy induced hypertension). They hooked me up to the monitors, took my blood pressure and very matter of factly sent me to the hospital -  little did I know that this was the day the babies would be born. They hooked me up to all of the monitors, put an IV line in, and told me to call my husband because the babies were going to be born in one hour. ONE HOUR!!!! Jeffs work is an hour away, there was no way he was going to make it on time and I was FREAKING OUT. Thankfully they postponed the C-Section until Jeff could get to the hospital. I was frantically calling all of my family members to see who could go to our house and get the camera and video camera. Auntie Angela came to the rescue getting both cameras to the hospital in time. The anesthesiologist arrived and inserted the epidural block for the C-Section. It didn’t feel very good and since the first attempt didn’t work he had to do it a second time. Ugh. I was so nervous when he was putting the needle in my blood pressure shot up to 124! Yikes. Jeff finally gets to the hospital and with my mom they “suit up” in scrubs and masks.

Of all of the hazy details I remember the clearest is of being so thirsty. I had not had anything to eat or drink for like 7 hours and I was so thirsty I kept ranting and raving about wanting Starbucks, but I’d settle for water. I also was going on and on about not having Gestational Diabetes anymore and I wanted brownies, ice cream, candy bars, and cookies. Oh and of course Angies carrot cake. By the way sissy - you still owe me the cake! =)

The nurses came and wheeled me to the operating room where they finished hooking me up to monitors, getting my belly ready for the surgery, and getting the beds ready for the babies. There were seriously like 16 nurses and doctors in the room waiting for the little clammies.

The next thing I know the doctor is asking me if I feel anything. I assume he’s poking me or whatever they do to make sure you’re numb. Oh no - they had already cut into me and were getting ready to pull Shenzie out! Talk about easy facheesie. At 5:33 p.m little Shenzie Weather was born. 4 pounds 9 ounces of pure beauty!

One minute later at 5:34 p.m Heaten Grey arrived. 5 pounds 8 ounces the cutest boy in the world!

They cleaned them up, put them on oxygen, and rushed them to the NICU.

The short trip to the NICU from the operating room was one of the few times they were able to be together. It was sad that almost the entire time they spent in the NICU they had to be seperated.

You’ve come a long way little babies - we love you so much!

Poopfest 2006

Do these babies somehow have poop diaper radar? It seems time and time again they finish their “business” so I/Jeff begin to change their diapers and they realize that they are not yet done. It’s almost as if they are doing it on purpose - trying to play trickster babies with mommy and daddy.

Today’s episode: I’m burping Heaten and feel something warm and wet on my hand. I look down and see that there is dookie all over his back, soaked through his clothes and now on my hand. I put him on the changing table and begin to change his diaper. The poop diaper radar kicks in and BAM! apparently he is not done going so now there is not only poop all over his back, it’s now on his feet, legs, changing table and my hand. I begin cleanup with a fresh new diaper, but nooooo, he’s not yet done. Diaper #1 now dirty. I grab another diaper, wait a couple of minutes and begin the process over. I finally get the poop cleaned off of him, the changing table, and my hand and the next thing you know there is a stream of pee shooting up into my freshly washed and blowdryed hair (and if you knew the drama it takes to wash AND blow straight my hair you would realize the pain of pee in it). Diaper #2 now dirty. I finally get diaper #3 on him and as I pick him up to finish his burp WHAM! the spitup flies from his mouth all over my clean shirt. Finally, he is fed, burped and changed with no poop in sight. Whew.

Shenzie’s turn. She must have felt left out and wanted to play in the poopfest too. She grunts, she groans, she stinks. From past experience I know not to rush to change her because of course she won’t be done doing her dirty business. I get her bottle ready and proceed to feed her all the while holding back the gag because that little girl STINKS something fierce. Thirty minutes pass - let me repeat that - THIRTY MINUTES. You’d think she would be done by now right? Oh so wrong you’d be. I take her to the freshly cleaned changing table, take her diaper off, clean the stink mess, get a fresh diaper put under her and WHAM! let the fresh flow of poop commence all over the clean diaper, the table, her legs, and my hand. Oh wait, there’s more - the pee wants to join in all over her clothes and the table. I wait a couple of minutes to make sure she’s done and clean up the new mess, put a fresh diaper under her, just finish getting her in fresh clean clothes and hear a sound that makes me want to cry. Once again I clean her, put a fresh diaper on and run away so if she goes again I can’t hear it or smell it. Bad mommy. Luckily they are both now sleeping so I can finish cleaning up Poopfest 2006.  Six diapers - SIX DIAPERS. Diapers don’t grow on trees little ones. You just wait until you’re older and able to do chores - you have a lot to work off!!!

Good thing these little rascals are so cute or I’d be forced to sell them to pay for the diapers!

Let the randomness begin.

It is 11:30 a.m and I am sitting here in Jeffs boxers, Jeffs t-shirt, saran wrap on my feet, and cabbage leaves in my bra…..the life of a mom is glamorous - don’t let them tell you different! My hair may not be brushed but at least my teeth are.

____________

A conversation with my best friend Stacey after she had her son Andrew.

Her: It’s two o’clock and I haven’t had time to brush my teeth.

Me: Stacey, it takes two minutes to brush your teeth, don’t tell me you don’t have two minutes.

Her:  Just wait until you have kids, you’ll see.

Present day…

Not one, not two, probably three days now I haven’t brushed my teeth until 5pm or so. Do you think it’s a coincidence that Jeff surprised me with a Sonicare toothbrush? Probably not. Hahahaha.

___________

It takes between 84-112 hours a week to feed and burp both babies. Holy Hell - can I have my old job back?!? Ok, ok just kidding - or am I? Ok, ok - I am. Let’s just say my life now revolves around the babies next feeding and what I can get done in between.

___________

The W key on this laptop is broke.

___________

My babies are the cutest thing I ever saw! If only they would sleep longer than 3 hours at a time.

Dear Clammies, aka Gaffers, aka Kabibbles,

This week you turned one month old. My, oh my, how the time flies. Having you both home is as great and as hard as I imagined it would be. Luckily I have a wonderful husband who has taken to fatherhood like a pro and does more than his share of work around here. He is addicted to you both, it is so sweet to see how much he loves you.

Shenzie had her first pediatrician appointment this week. You now weigh 6 pounds 10 ounces and are 18.25 inches long. The doctor gave you an A+ and said you were perfect which I already knew. Now that you’re home you are much more active and alert, just not as much as your little brother. While your brother wakes up the neighbors with his squawking and yelling you are the opposite and sit calmly and quietly for hours just staring into space. The only time you cry is when you’re hungry. I could sit and watch your expressions for hours. You smile, hold my hand and stare at me while I feed you, pout, and frown, alot.

You are very petite in comparison to Heaten. You have long skinny fingers that I just want to eat up.

You are the cutest little girl I ever did see and I love you to pieces.

We took our first family walk this week. You both really liked it - the next day when you were fussy I took you out again and it calmed you both down. Now I know the trick to getting you to sleep.

I’m not mad I just look that way, the sun was blinding me.

Fast asleep.

Heaten also had a pediatrician appointment this week. You weigh 7 pounds 13 ounces, are 19 inches long and are solid like a linebacker. Even though you only weigh one more pound than your sister you seem so much bigger. The doctor said you were very, very strong. You can already hold your own head up. You are a little crazy and alot loud. I’ve never seen a baby so loud. You constantly squawk, grunt, groan, cry out, and growl. All day and all night you “talk”. And lets not even talk about eating - you are a demon when it comes to food. I say you act like a zombie - feed you or else. You attack us and yourself when you wake up hungry (which is every feeding). You grunt and growl and try to eat your hand or whatever comes into contact with your mouth. You claw your face or your dad and me - I have the wounds to prove it. I frequently have to “sock you”. Put socks on your hands so you can’t hurt yourself, our us.

We had a bit of excitement last week at the pediatrician’s. I took you to get circumcised and let me tell you it was an experience to remember. You were very good and only cried when they put the needle in to numb you. I watched the procedure and wow is all I have to say. For once I am glad to be a girl. I wish I had brought my camera to document it, it was very interesting (and scary). After the doctor was all done and we were getting ready to leave the fire alarm sounded and as we went into the hallway it was filled with smoke. All the nurses, doctors, and patients were running past us to the stair case. When we finally got there I realized I had no way to get you, the stroller, and your carseat down six flights of stairs by myself. Luckily the last two nurses on the floor helped me down with the stroller and some random guy helped me down with you and the carseat. By the time I got to the car I was in tears. First you got your peepee cut and then we were 10 feet away from a fire and I was so scared for you. They evacuated all of Summerlin Medical Center and 5 fire trucks showed up to put out the fire.

If you could get any cuter I don’t know what I would do!!! We love you to pieces little boy!

*Thank you to Auntie Kristy for the cute outfits, we love them and don’t we look adorable!!!
