Because the babies were born earlier than 35 weeks and spent time in the NICU our insurance company authorized a vaccination shot called Synagis to prevent RSV. RSV is very, very serious for preemie babies who have immature lungs. RSV season goes from October to April so for those months we took the babies to get their monthly Synagis shots. These shots are VERY expensive….I’m talking like $6000.00 each expensive of which we have a HUGE co-pay…I’m talking like $1000.00 each huge. Needless to say these shots better be made of magic gold dust that prevents our babies from ever getting a sniffle, sneeze, or cough.
Those shots were full of Shit! With a capital S! Both babies got their last shot in April…RSV season is now over….it is summer here….like over 100 degrees summer…I rarely take the babies out and nobody EVER touches them when we are. I didn’t leave the house with the babies for the first 3 months of their lives….and somehow, somewhere, Shenzie got RSV.
Are you *insert some serious cuss words here* kidding me. I mean, come on. How in the world, after the zillion precautions that we took did she get sick. She is so wheezy, sniffly, coughy, congested, and miserable I want to cry. We are keeping Heaten as far as possible away from her and her sicky germs. Please, please do not let him get sick too. There is absolutely nothing worse than seeing your baby sick and not being able to fix it.
Wish us luck on our RSV journey to hell, we’re going to need it.

Lesley, I hope she gets better quickly, and I hope Mr. H doesn’t catch it! Poor Shenzie!

OMG! This is frightening. Is she hospitalized?! This
is so common in Chinese children. I worried
myself sick when we first returned home from China a year
ago. My dear friend Sen (Search and Destroy) baby was
hospitalized for it. Thank G-d she’s a nurse and knew
what to look for. My understanding is it’s very much
like pneumonia… I’ll be thinking about you sweetie.

Give her a big kiss. I can’t believe she got RSV… you have been so careful to make sure this exact thing didn’t happen. Sorry girlie. If you need to talk or anything else, you have my #.

Oh, poor punkin’! I’m so sorry Shenzie is under the weather. I doubt it helps much, but at least you know you did everything you could to prevent RSV. Just imagine if she got sick and you hadn’t done the shots, right? Here’s hoping Heaten and the rest of you stay healthy and Shenzie has a speedy recovery.

I’m so sorry she got RSV. That’s awful! I hope she
recovers soon. S&J also got those shots. My understanding
from reading about them is that, unfortunately, it doesn’t
prevent getting RSV, but it helps keep the consequences
of getting RSV in check, like decreases the chances of
getting pneumonia from it, etc. Hopefully she won’t get
sicker and will recover soon, and won’t pass it to her
brother. Poor little one, there’s little harder on a mom
than a sick baby!

Poor girl (you and her both)!!! I hope she gets better soon. Call if you need anything. I could always use some sick days;)

I haven’t a clue what to tell you … I still hardly take
my girls anywhere because I’m still not over all the sicknesses
they caught in day care for 6 months. And, they still
get viruses. I don’t believe anything the doctors say anymore.
Your twins are ADORABLE. I love Heaton’s hair! Awesome. Thanks
for visiting my site. Yes, it does get LOTS easier. Two sick
ones is not fun. Hang in there.
