Once upon a time Before Babies Jeff and I had a night routine. I would get home from work, lay on the couch and read for a bit, pick up the house, talk on the phone, play on the computer and then start dinner. Jeff would get home, we would eat dinner while watching TV and then cuddle on the couch watching some night TV, read, or just talk. From there we would head upstairs to bed, cuddling in bed while watching TV (me usually with my eyes closed since it was my bedtime).
Last night while lying in bed I laughed and asked Jeff if he could remember the last time we watched TV in bed. It’s been, oh, about 10 months or so. It’s funny how things change and it feels like they’ve been that way forever. I can hardly remember all of the free time I had….what in the world did I do back then?!?!

Trying to keep babies entertained with Scooby Doo. Pathetic, I know.
These days. Get babies up from afternoon nap. Carry one baby down the stairs and run up the stairs to get the other baby, carry them down the stairs. Give them a snack and sippy of water. Clean up snack, clean up kitchen, play with babies, get new toys out because babies are bored. Run up and down the stairs trying to find things to keep babies entertained. Prepare babies dinner (making it look very pretty I might add), feed babies, clean up babies, clean up mess in kitchen…..run around trying to keep babies entertained. Carry one baby up the stairs, run back down and grab the other baby and carry them up the stairs. Find toys to keep them entertained. Play, play, play, run, run, play. Give babies night time bottle. Run around while they eat getting diapers, pj’s, and sleep sacks ready for babies. Try to keep babies entertained until Jeff gets home. Jeff gets home…we play for a few minutes, get babies in their sleep sacks, sing a few songs and it’s off to bed for the babies.

Peas, broccoli, cauliflower, cheese, and “chicken” soy nuggets.

I then go downstairs and prepare dinner taking breaks to run back upstairs to rock a crying baby hoping with all of my might they don’t wake the other baby up. Jeff and I take turns soothing babies and fixing dinner. FINALLY I get to sit down! We eat dinner usually at 8pm, just in time for some night TV. Watch a little TV while eating, cuddle on the couch a quick minute, I head upstairs to get ready for bed. A quick cuddle in bed with no TV and my eyes get so droopy I can barely hold them open. Snore snore.

Playing together. How sweet is that!
As busy and hectic as things are now, I wouldn’t change them for the world!

awww…it’s amazing what we get done in a day, isn’t it?
But in 4 years, and they’re off to school? *sniff sniff* Then we’ll
have to figure out what to do with all the free time?

Lookydaddy is addressing this very topic today as well.
Funny how we perceive time, isn’t it?
Great meal! Can you make that for my girls? They refuse
broccoli and cauliflower.

It is crazy how much time we used to waste; Eric and
I talk about it all the time. Wouldn’t it be great if
we could have banked some of our free time in our
pre-parent days to cash in now? Thank goodness they are
cute or we’d never survive.
