Having boy/girl twins gives me the opportunity to see the similarities and differences in their development. So far Shenzie has been first for most things and Heaten lazily catches up at his own pace…and then ZOOM! He quickly passes her by without looking back. It seems he is doing it again with walking. A full month ago Shenzie took her first assisted steps and started cruising around. Heaten was content scooting around from place to place while Shenzie shot past him. When Heaten started cruising around I would have to stand him up and get him down because he hadn’t yet learned how to pull up and sit back down. That all changed this weekend.

This weekend Heaten learned how to pull up, sit back down, crawl, take steps assisted and unassisted. Ummm. Hello…I guess when the lazy stops he gets really ambitious. He started pulling up on Thursday night and by Friday night was a pro. He took his first assisted steps on Saturday and on Sunday he tried to walk from the coffee table to the couch all by himself. He isn’t scared at all. They both cruise around the entire house, walk behind their mini cars alone, take steps from one piece of furniture to the other, and takes steps to me and their daddy.

We now have two very mobile babies on the verge of walking. It is a little race to see who’s first. My bets on Heaten.

As an added bonus they both got a tooth this weekend. Shenzie is now at 6 and Heaten is at 2. Once again he is taking his sweet time catching up.

All I can say is whoever invented the work week should be shot in the foot. Jeff had five days off…and let me tell you….pure heaven! Having him home to help with the crazies and hang out with was pure heaven.

One month until Christmas and New Year and then it is 2008. Does anyone else find this disturbing?

**********

I am tired, tired, tired. For not doing too much the entire weekend I still feel wore out! Jeff and I had big plans to clean out the entire garage this weekend. HAHAHAHA. We didn’t even move one box. We suck. In our defense it is really hard to get things done with two little fussing maniacs that need constant attention. We baby proofed the entire kitchen and loft so at least we don’t have to worrry about any more disasters. Mobile twins = insanity!

**********

I was able to get 70% of my Christmas shopping done yesterday. Score!! We didn’t really venture out during Black Friday/weekend….I don’t like people and crazy people at Christmas time are way worse than normal. No thank you!

Our Thanksgiving family photo..don’t the babies look thrilled? =)

I win!!!!
Last night was pure hell. No wait, it deserves capitals for sure…it was pure HELL!!! Poison Control, a trip from the Fire Department, and a trip to the ER. Not fun!

Yesterday afternoon I ran upstairs for a couple of minutes and came back down to find both babies happily playing on the floor. What were they playing with you ask? That would be Excedrine Migraine….an entire bottle opened and pills everywhere including their mouths. Those tamper proof lid thingies…not so tamper proof it seems.

After calling Poison Control and having the Fire Department evaluate them both they determined that the amount missing from the bottle (3 1/2 pills) should not be toxic and just keep an eye on the babies from home….however, if we noticed any vomiting or strange behavior we should go to the emergency room.

Luckily there was no vomiting, but Shenzie was out of control spastic…like a maniac and then screaming and crying uncontrollably for what felt like ever. Jeff decided we should take her to the ER so I packed her up and off we went.

Let me just say that the entire ER visit was very traumatic for Shenzie Bear (and Mama as well). Four hours later we were sent home with a clean bill of health. Her asprin and acetaminiphine levels were high, but not toxic so we were free to go.

1am and Shenzie was still awake….so overtired and traumatized that she couldn’t sleep. Poor girl. Her arms are very likely bruised up from the three different needles they poked her with because they couldn’t find her vein. Me and three other nurses had to hold her down for 30 minutes while they poked and prodded her crying, screaming, thrashing body. It was the worst experience she has ever had and seriously I almost grabbed her and ran out of there. Screw the needles and blood test, she was hysterical and I was nearly there myself.

There is nothing worse than seeing your baby in pain and scared and not being able to do anything about it. And the worst part is I’m the one who left the bottle within reach of the babies….Never be as stupid as me and leave anything within your babies reach. Tamper proof is so NOT tamper proof and the ER sucks!

Shopping really is the cure all. Well, shopping minus the crazy crowds….and only if you find what you’re looking for…and if it is on sale or free, even better!
This weekend I had a much needed break. Jeff stayed with the crazies all day so I could get some retail therapy. My sisters and I went to the mall Saturday and shopped till we dropped! Well, not really dropped….but you get it. I must say I am very happy with all of my purchases which included some Philosophy, a pair of jeans, Victorias Secret bra and panties, and a Starbucks to top it off!

*Disclaimer….the following story was a total accident. The thieving was NOT preplanned in any way and is not a regular occurrence of the Barr household.

My new trick when shopping with the babies is to put them both in the main part of the cart and cram everything else on the bottom of the cart or in with the babies. The only problem with this is when you forget to unload the bottom of the cart and end up walking out of the store with things you may not have paid for……like maybe this….

I get out to my car and start unloading my purchases to find this giant Dump Truck sitting under the cart. Ut oh! I look around hoping the security guard is not coming to get me. All clear!!! I throw the stolen goods in the car, back out of the parking spot, and burn rubber getting out of there!!!

Yes, I could have went back to pay for it…but what fun is that!!???! I just got a free dump truck. And the security dude I walked RIGHT PAST should have busted me out. Plus, I wasn’t about to unload the babies again to go give them my money for something I already got for free. Heehee.

Jeff, if I get caught shoplifting with the babies will you bail me out of jail? Or on second thought, maybe just leave me there a couple of days so I can sleep in and relax.

All day long Heaten loves to say Dada. Over and over it is dadadadada. Lately instead of quietly chanting dada he will scream, sing, yell, and holler Dada.

And of course we can’t let a day go by without Shenzie trying to pull Heaten’s hair. Notice how she looks back at me first…she totally knows she isn’t supposed to pull his hair. Each time she does something she is not supposed to do (stand in the tub, pull his hair, bite me) she will look at me first…is she saying…’Neener neener you can’t stop me’  or is it more of a  ’Watch me Mama, I’m doing something I’m not supposed to do….heehee.’

Dear Television/Movie/Network Executives,

I have twins. As in two babies. I know you can’t appreciate what this means, but let me tell you….they require A LOT of time, effort, and sacrifice. They constantly need something which means I am constantly doing the babies bidding. During the day the TV pretty much stays off, but the nights are another story. The minute those crazy kids go to bed I hit the TV giddy with excitement. TV entertainment is a chance to shut down my weary brain and forget how crazy the day was…how insane the babies were…how tired, sore, tired, and did I say tired I am.

What am I to do Mr. Executives when the scripts have run dry and there is no more mindless entertainment to keep me happy? Are you going to offer me money to pay for a babysitter so I can get a break? Offer drugs to keep me happy? Tell me Mr. Executives, just what are your plans in keeping my sanity intact?

I’ll tell you what you can do….pay the writers whatever they want. Meet whatever demands they are making. My sanity is at stake here..DO YOU HEAR THE WORDS THAT ARE COMING OUT OF MY MOUTH!!!! My sanity!!!! Hell, you paid the cast of Friends a million dollars an episode, I’m sure you can spare a couple of bucks for the writers….you know, the writers who actually write the scripts for those actors to make their cool mill…the writers who, as you can see you can’t live without.

In conclusion Mr. Executives, get off your asses and make it happen! I NEED my mindless, brainless entertainment and I need it NOW!

Sincerely,

Tired Crazy Mama
