When does a babies privacy come into play? I’m having a tough time deciding if I want to post a couple of pictures for Foto Friday tomorrow where the babies are just in diapers. I know it is personal preference in how much you reveal about your life, your child, and what pictures you choose to post (if any). I’m pretty open (understatement), but I’m having a tough time with this one. For all of the bad people out there who may look at the photos with evil thoughts or simply for my own child’s privacy.
You all know I post a gazillion pictures here, but I try not to post ones where you see nips nips or nekkie booty. In your opinion is that ok at this age? Never ok? What do you think?
*Edited to add…I just realized I posted nip nips the other day in the bathtub…so I guess it is not as big a deal as I’m making it…but I still want to know your thoughts.
*Thank you guys for the comments and advice. I’ve decided not to use the pictures. Like you said, go with my gut and this time my gut is passing.
*Kristy - Don’t worry, I had permission from Stacey to use those pictures. =)
*Jodi - You didn’t leave your email address…leave it next comment and we’ll “talk shop”.
*For Stacey - Yes, the age is my issue. When babies are tiny and babies and not yet walking I don’t view it the same as when they start walking and talking etc. I posted nips of the twins when they were younger too. Also, before ever posting any picture of a child other than my own that is questionable I always ask the parent for permission before doing so. The older the babies get is when the question of privacy comes into play (for me at least). And too…the picture I posted of Haylee was from a professional photoshoot which I view as art, not a random candid. I would have no problem posting the babies if it were from a photoshoot. Again, just my own opinion, crazy as it is.

I have posted diaper and tub photos, though I will probably do so less frequently.
And I have these great photo of S where she’s standing in a diaper and t-shirt
and baseball cap. But somehow her pose has this weird quality to it (seductive?
sexual?) the way she’s holding her legs, so I refrained from posting it.
I get really freaked out when people find our blog by searching “naked babies”
but that is very infrequent. Sometimes I think about going password protected
or unsearchable, but then someone finds it with a search term that’s a cry for
help/advice, and I’m glad I can put us out there.
It’s a really tough question, though!

I first came to your blog searching for photography…I am trying to get more into photographt and have been taking some classes. You page is awesome, and twins on top of that is great I am a twin and I really hope that I have twins some day. But I know there are sick people in this world, but if they are sick even the cute fully clothed pictures of your kids are going to do the same thing as naked ones. I take millions of pics of my nieces and nephews and friends babies, I dont think the diaper pics are bad, but some may. Just thought I would tell you what I thought. And by the way you do great photos. What kind of camera do you use?

I have used lots of bathing suits and diaper shots and just really am not too
worried about it. I do think the older they get the more you need to worry
about that. Follow your gut. When in doubt, just don’t use it.

I am paranoid about this and am very careful about what pictures I post.
I have so many cute topless pics and bath time pics that I won’t post. However,
I think I am in the minority as I look at other blogs. It’s sad, but I feel I can’t
ever be too careful.
PS-this is the reason I asked you to keep M’s photoshoot pics password protected.
As you said, it’s personal preference..as the pp said, go with your gut.

Also voting to go with your gut. I will say however that people come in on keyword text searches so purposefully misspelling things or not including descriptive phrases usually helps. Inevitably the weirdos find you anyway… someone recently found my blog through this keyword search:
mom found diapers in my closet

It is scarey to think other people may look at the pictures wrong. It is pretty sad all we have to worry about these days! I think you are right it is a personal thing, I too try to not post anything to nakee, but sometimes I do it without even realizing it!! There is also a little naked Haylee bootie on your site!

I just had this same debate with myself when I decided to post about M’s Elmos. It’s too bad there are such pervs out there. I personally think a little baby bootie is ok. Part of me thinks what I don’t know won’t hurt me. And I’m pretty much ok with the top half being bare while they’re still in diapers. In my case, I decided to do my post, but get a little creative with the words I think would be searched for. And I’ll definitely be more reserved in the future because my girl is definitely not a baby anymore (although, she de-clothes herself faster than I can dress her so I may have to resort to using a censored bar).

I’m confused… the picture you picked of Haylee is full on nip nip shot. However, you are concerned posting any revealing photos of the twins for fear of bad people looking at the photos with evil thoughts. Is it the age difference that makes Haylee’s okay. Now you’ve got me worried…

I definitely think it’s an age thing but I have no idea what the cut off is.
And of course you post this question the same day I post this… http://klg221.blogspot.com/2008/07/pictures_10.html

I agree with the others, go with your gut. If you even question it at all don’t do it.
