Monkey buddy backpack thingies
The next week and a half are super busy here at the old Barr Casa so be prepared for an onslaught of photographs until I can actually write again.

Awhile back we bought the monkey backpack buddy thingies. The babies HATED them. Cried and cried until I took them off. I recently took them to the mall where they wanted out of their stroller. Enter monkey backpack buddy thingies. They LOVED them. They walked right next to me holding onto the monkey tail. Yay! We are on our way to stroller freedom!!!
There is much drama surrounding the monkey backpack - or leash as I’ve heard it called. A lot of people including many mothers have said that they would NEVER leash their child. How inhumane! How horrible for the child! Blah blah blah. And maybe I used to feel that way, I don’t know because to be quite honest I never thought about baby leashes..I mean, why would I? So anyway….to all of those backpack haters all I can say is the backpacks keep my babies safe. They are not going to be snatched up by some maniac, they are not going to run into a busy street and get hit by a car, they are not going to run in two opposite directions which is very dangerous if we’re in a parking lot or busy store. They are not yet old enough to understand the consequences of running off but are old enough to love the freedom they get with the backpacks. They get to walk next to me like little people and explore the world from a different perspective. The babies and I both love the backpacks and the freedom they allow. The babies are much safer while walking in a crowded area with them on and I don’t have to worry about all of the dangers they could be getting into. Safety is my main concern and if that means they have to wear a backpack for awhile until they are old enough to understand all of the dangers then I am all for it. Monkey backpack haters begone!!!

Oh Lesley, my kiddos loved these things also! They would carry them around the house! I have not used them at the mall yet, but I am sure they would work out GREAT! It is SO much more fun without the stroller isn’t it? I love it!!
Cute photos, as always!

Before I had kids, I could never understand why people use these. Can’t you watch
your own kid? I would think. Now I understand. It is not safer or kinder to yank
my child by the arm when s/he tries to run into a busy street. I totally get it
now.

I am so close to getting these. I was another one of those “I’ll never” gals but boy would I feel more relaxed when out and about. Also, they really would be great for the mall this winter. Where did you find them?

We had the “leash”, I thought it would give him more freedom to be a big boy. But then when we would try and use it he would just sit down in the middle of where ever we were!! He was too funny with it
But I like the monkey idea, does it have room for snacks and a sippy?

Oh I’m not a backpack “leash” hater. Whatever keeps my kids safe.

I’ve never understood kid-leash haters. It’s not like it goes around their neck and they get tied to a tree. It is so, so, so easy to lose sight of a kid in an instant- heck even at home, let alone in a crowded place. I’ve always been pro kid-leash and although I haven’t felt like I’ve needed it for Madeline, I really think I will for Maison. And those little monkeys are adorable! Oh, and the backpacks are too.

They are pretty cute:) I will admit, before kids I have judged the Harnesses:) But like anything I think that we do what we have to do, in this case you do what you do to keep them safe. I try not to be one of those “I would never….. ” Parents because until you are faced with it, you don’t know how you would react. People are way to quick to Judge & give Unsolicited advice these days:) I will say it again, as moms we do what we have to do to survive!! It is all about SURVIVAL, some days that can be rough. Oh, I see another one: ) I thought about calling but this is much more fun, for all the years you were mean to me:)

dude, there’s no way a worry-wart like myself could have managed without those backpacks.
my girls still love them but are too big, obviously, for them.
they rock. I do crack up when I see parents using them on just one toddler.
