Babies and Family and Photos and Weekend Recap15 Jun 2009 06:14 am

Another wonderful weekend has past. =( Why oh why are they so short!?!?

Even though Friday isn’t “technically” the weekend we had such a fun day it might as well have been. It was one of those rare days that both babies were happy, fun, and funny. They didn’t fight (much), ate well, and napped well. Too bad every day can’t be this way!

We started off the day with the excitement of Shenzie doing her potty business (#1 and #2) in the little potty, but more on that later. We then headed to Tar*get to get some “goodie bag” treats. I started a sticker chart and reward system so I needed to get some rewards. And of course, more on that later as well. We had finger paint art time, sandbox fun, jumping fun, and popsicle fun! We had a picnic with El Pollo Loco *yum* which meant no cleanup or cooking for me! The night ended with a long “discovery walk” where we found broken glass, broken sprinklers, ewwwie bugs, flowers, trees, and rocks. On the way home a big white van drove past. Both babies started making the sign for ice cream and running up the sidewalk to get some (which is funny because we’ve NEVER actually bought ice cream from the ice cream truck we just always watch it go by and talk about it). Turns out the white van wasn’t the ice cream truck but just a neighbor much to the babies disappointment. Good thing for them she was so nice and gave them each a cookie instead. =) What a perfect way to end our day. Jeff had !Kung Fu! that night so I was running solo which really isn’t that bad. I’m much meaner than him so the babies are generally in bed at 8 sharp. They go down easier because they haven’t been rough housing and playing with Daddy all night.

They still fit in the same swing

Saturday we headed out to enjoy the last little bit of this wonderful June weather we’re having (mid 80’s!!!) and went to the park. Going to the park with Daddy is so much more fun that when it is just me. We spent the morning playing and then had date night to look forward too!! My SIL offered to watch the Crazies so I took Jeff out for an early Father’s Day Date. We went to see The Hangover which was just TOO funny! We laughed and laughed and laughed, ate gross popcorn, snacked on candy, and had a great time. We got take out on the way home, put the babies to bed, and enjoyed a yummy dinner while watching 30 Days of Night which I LOVE! Thank you Dara, we really appreciate it!!!

Sunday was my sleep in day (YIPPEE), but the babies didn’t even start yelling until 8:30 so Jeff had a bonus sleep in day as well! We headed out to one of our few “nature” parks to feed the ducks and see the peacocks. A wonderful morning spent with the people I love the very most in the whole wide world. The wonderful day ended when I made a trade with Jeff. He would take the babies grocery shopping while I stayed home and cleaned the tile floors. Sounds like a great deal right? Well, my wonderfully amazing husband said instead of me cleaning the floors why don’t I have some “me” time and he’ll take the babies to the store AND clean the floors tonight. Yes, my husband rocks! Ahhhh, weekends and husband how I love thee so.

This is why I never ask kids to say cheese…cuz it looks CHEESIE. Hahaha, get it? Cheese is cheesie? Hardy har har I just crack me up.

Over Memorial Day Weekend Jeff and I took the kids (wow, it sounds weird saying kids and not babies) to the Lied Children’s Discovery Museum. We had never been so it was fun to do it together as a family. This place is pretty awesome! They had TONS of stuff to do, the kids were never bored. Two stories full of fun fun fun! A car shop, grocery store, singing lounge, arts and crafts room, water stuff, hurricane simulator, dress up area with huge stage, water and bubble fun, tool time, games, and so much more I can’t even remember. We ended up getting a yearly membership and I anticipate it will be much used this summer as a way to beat the heat!

Some of Shenzie’s Favorites:

Driving the car, boat, and plane.
Playing dress up in her flapper dress and dancing on the giant stage.
Seeing Clifford the Big Red Dog.
“Fixing” the car
“Shopping for groceries
Singing. I love the look of concentration on her face - she was singing the ABC’s.
The Wind Tunnel - she doesn’t look like she is having fun, but they both LOVED it. It simulates a hurricane complete with 80 miles an hour wind blowing. It was FUN!

Some of Heaten’s Favorites:

Playing in the water - shutting off and turning on the flow to different areas.
He was kinda sketchy over Clifford.
Getting hysted up on the chair with a rope by Daddy.
“Fixing” the car.
Playing giant games.
“Shopping” for eggs - he won’t eat them, but loves to touch them and watch them CRACK.
The Wind Tunnel. I was certain he would cry and hate it but he surprised me and asked for “one mo”.

I’ve said before I am not baby hungry at all. And really, I’m not. But this little beauty (who was born premature) just stole my heart. She was so tiny, so sweet, so beautiful I could have just brought her home with me. I’m sure her Mama would have not liked that much and might hurt me if I would have tried so I left her sleeping soundly with her wonderful Mama. I had two newborn sessions this past weekend so I’m up to my ears in editing - just thought I’d share a little of the sweetness with you.

Last weekend we ventured out to the Springs Preserve for their Ice Cream Social. Ice cream at 10:30 in the morning probably isn’t the best thing in the world, but a little ice cream breakfast never hurt anyone.

Heaten doesn’t like cold stuff on his teeth so instead of eating ice cream he dips his tongue in - hey, whatever works!

The day started with Shenzie getting a cold (again). Then she got sunblock in her eye which she rubbed and rubbed until it was raw, red, swollen, and she was crying.

It was hot, I was grouchy, and the ice cream was melty. I didn’t bring the stroller and there was A LOT of walking involved with me carrying all of our crap (diapers, wipes, drinks, snacks, etc) and my big camera. Needless to say it wasn’t the best of times.

The highlights included:

Getting Elmo painted on their arms

Eating Ice Cream for breakfast

Having soda (rootbeer floats) for the first time - they both REALLY liked the soda. It wasn’t until they had already started drinking them that we realized der, it was soda. Despite all of the moms at the park letting their 2 year olds drink Dr. Pepper, I disagree that toddlers should drink soda. Oops. I guess one time won’t do too much damage. =)

Touring the garbage truck

Playing Ball Drop - or some weird ball game

Driving the car

We ended up leaving early (thank GOD) with the promise to go back after the babies nap. Let me say that round two of the day was a success!! We had a blast! No more sunblock, Shenzie’s eye was better, I brought the stroller and had my arms free to take pictures. Ummmm. Except I didn’t bring my camera. Duh. Why oh why would I not bring my camera. Not even my little point and shoot. I was so bummed. The following photos were taken with my iphone. Thank goodness I at least had that!

Shenzie and Heaten met Elmo,

Blue,

Cat in the Hat,

They ran around and danced. They ate more ice cream. They laughed, ran, played, sang, and had a blast.

Piggytails and can you find Heaten Edition:

When Shenzie saw my piggies she wanted some of her own. Heaten thought the timer going off on the camera was great and ran in at the last second. I love how he is peeking in at the bottom. Also, just ignore the dead plant up in the right corner - I do not have a green thumb and not watering plants in the desert is NOT a good idea.

*The ONE good thing about being sick with a stuffed up nose is it blocks the worst of the toxic stink butt fumes.

1:50pm
*I’ll just pretend this is my facebook and twitter all rolled into one and post here today. BTW if you have facebook or twitter come find me!

2:30pm
*My kids are not napping. Isn’t 2.8 years too young to give them up (OMG please say yes). How old are your kids and how long do they nap?

2:31pm
*I’m tired and tired and sick. Somebody kill me now.

Today is one of those days I need to stop, take a deep breath, and remind myself how very lucky, blessed, and wonderful my life is. Because really, 10 minutes after our bath when we’re already running late and I have PMS is not a good time for this:

And yes, you guessed it - I was in the shower. Will I never learn my lesson?!? What you fail to see in the photo above is the pile of clean clothes on the floor (yes, I know, horrible me for putting clean clothes on the floor, what can I say, I was tired last night) covered in thick goopy lotion. Yay, more laundry!

All About Me and Weekend Recap01 Jun 2009 06:03 am

This weekend I:

Had a newborn shoot with the sweetest little girl who slept like an angel.
Drank a Starshmucks WAY too late and stayed up WAY past my bedtime and then slept like crap.
Watched Kung Fu Panda - cute movie.
Took the babies to The Springs Preserve for their Ice Cream Social (more on that later with photos).
Edited LOTS of photos.
Cleaned a bit.
Updated all of my photo sites with new pricing (with the help of hubby of course) - a PITA if there ever was one.
Went to Wallyworld and bought a magnetic soon to be potty chart. Oh yes, the time has come….the dirty deed must be done.
Washed lots of laundry.
Dealt with a sick daughter who would not nap (our first time back to the gym and she gets sick - UGH!)
Went to the grocery store - dreaded chore.
Wished Monday wouldn’t come so fast.

And HOLY CRAP it is June already!!! Tomorrow my babies/kids are 2 years 8 months old! Crazy stuff I tell ya.
