The Evolution of Transportation
We have had many modes of transportation here at the old Casa de Barr. Pre walking days they had their Pimp Rides. Man where those things ever BIG!

August 2007
For the babies first birthday they got the scoot along cars that they still use to chase each other around the house.

November 2007

March 2008
They have their outdoor trikes we got them for their second birthday that they can’t quite pedal, but like to scoot around on anyhow (very slow riding indeed).

April 2009
I have been talking to some friends who said their kids couldn’t ride the trike/low rider style, but could ride a regular bike so last weekend we took them to the store and tested the theory. Sure enough Shenzie got right on and started pedaling around the store!!

August 2009
We tried out the bigger bike with training wheels, but they were just a little too advanced right now. We wanted something they could use this fall when it gets cool enough to go outside again. I think the bikes we chose will be grown out of quickly, but they will get the job done in the meantime until we can get “real” bikes. Shenzie LOVES her bike and helmet and rides it around and around the house all day. Heaten is getting there, but is not nearly as good at pedaling as Shenzie. He is content to scoot around on it Flintstones style.
Here is a short video of one of her first rides around the kitchen.

I can see where if the pedals are out front that it would be harder for them to pedal.
I did a lot of reading on not using training wheels. This product is real cool and I feel like it makes a lot of sense http://www.skuut.com/
The ever frugal person that I am figures I’ll just buy a 12 inch bike and take the pedals off. I was just at the store today trying them out and Maddie’s feet don’t even come close to touching the ground so she has a little while to go. Jackson should be close soon.
Here’s another link to the retailer that sells the Skuut. They’re pretty pricey…
