As most people I have a “to do” list that is a mile long. Just when it starts to seem like it is shrinking, something creeps up and WHAM! It is a mile long again. Of course, my procrastination getting the twinzies into Pre-School isn’t helping. Once I have a few hours to get stuff done I think I can maybe get a handle on things [I hope]. As of now I am beyond buried and need to make a few changes. One of those involves merging this blog with my Photography Blog. Keeping them both up to date is becoming impossible, and merging them would save me a lot of time.
Of course I have concerns. My biggest concern is not everyone who reads my photo blog wants to or cares about reading about my kids and our personal life. Will I lose readership of that blog? Will it hurt or help search engines or not matter at all? Will I lose or gain clients by offering more of myself, my life, my family on my “work” blog? I’m still undecided if this is the right move so I’d LOVE to hear your thoughts. I don’t have a HUGE readership here, but I know many of you read and don’t comment so now is your chance. What do you think? Keep it separate? Merge it together? I am thinking of doing a trial run and see how it goes. Decisions, decisions. I would love any feedback and opinions you may have. Thanks!

Well do you want to keep this as their baby book? I think if you merged the two, you would spend more time censoring yourself on the things you care about (books, their personalities) and then you would lose something. But I think people like to know more about the people behind the lens.
So here’s what I think. Merge the two. You still have the Photography part of your other website so people can look at only photographs. Then your blog can be sneak peaks and stories about your kiddos, etc. I have no problem maintaining two blogs but I am in front of a computer 40 hours a week!

I would merge it. I always look at both and I love to show my sister and sister-in-law your photo blog. We love all your pictures! And I love reading about the twins. Good luck with it all!

My two cents would say to merge. I never get a chance to get to your photograph blog and this would allow me to see both!!

My opinion although I have nothing to base it on…it’s just how I feel and what I do, is to keep it separate. I agree with Laura that you don’t want to end up censoring yourself so as not to bore or offend a potential client (you know cause you’re so boring and offensive).
I strictly keep mine separate. I don’t even publish any pictures of my kids (except the one time I did what I would consider an actual session with them). But that’s just me. I definitely think you should do what works with your personality and what makes you comfortable.

Hey girl…I agree that I would keep them seperate. My friend (Laura) has a photo blog that like you, she occasionally has photos/snippets about her kids, but it’s very “basic” and tasteful. I would tend to think it might come across as a tad unprofessional if you had too much personal info on there (just my honest opinion). However….I do understand your dilemna….I m really considering ending my blog when B turns a year…it makes me sad, but at the same time I would rather spend time getting things done, spending time with hubby or RELAXING than trying to update my blog.

Do whatever works for you…. I can’t imagine you’re gonna really lose any of us!

I think either would be okay sissy, but I don’t want you to look back and wish you had kept them separate… Will you still do your yearly books for Shenzie and Heaten? If so, it seems like it would be hard to edit out the photography part of it. Do you think once S & H are in school you will have more time to do both? I know you are stressed to the max sissy, and again, whatever you decide I think is going to be fine, I just don’t want you to have any regrets…

Hi Lesley - I’ve wondered how you have time to do both. It’s definitely a conundrum. Maybe it would help to break down your reasons for both: the photo blog is essentially a marketing tool for current and prospective clients, so it is probably better to keep it professional. For this blog, are you mostly wanting to document memories/photos of S & H? If so, I would keep them separate. Perhaps the solution is to just post on each once a week (or once every two weeks - photo blog one week, personal blog the next). Your readers keep coming back for the content and you and your beautiful family, not for how often you post!

I personally enjoy looking at them both so since I’m not the one maintaining them and I’m just enjoying them, I say keep them separate. You are so detailed on S&H’s blog that I don’t think you would be able to do that on your pro blog and you’ve done such a great job journaling their lives that I would hate for you to quit that as I’m sure it is something they will cherish one day. Wish I’d done it for my two.
